EPIPHAN PEARL NANO / Tailored to your productions.

Pearl Nano™ is perfect for small-scale events, SRT contribution encoding, and as a dedicated streamer and recorder. The optional 4K feature add-on allows you to upgrade Pearl Nano with 4K capabilities as your needs evolve. With H.265/HEVC compression, it is the perfect solution to reduce the size of your video files and the required bandwidth by half, thanks to the new firmware update 4.16. And with Epiphan Cloud, you can access, monitor, and control Pearl Nano from anywhere.

Small size and big performance

Front screen for supervision and control.

Trusted monitoring: You can view the live stream and recording details on the front screen.

Recording and transmission control: You can start and stop recording and transmission using the control keys on the front panel.

H.265/HEVC video compression.

Epiphan Pearl Nano is capable of compressing video using the H.265 codec (also known as HEVC). H.265 is a video compression standard that offers higher encoding efficiency compared to its predecessor, H.264.

HDMI pass-through and program output.

Pearl Nano has an HDMI pass-through port on the rear panel. This port sends the HDMI input signal without any latency. That is, the HDMI input signal is transmitted directly through this port without any modification or delay.

4K transmission and recording (optional function).

The Epiphan Pearl Nano device has the ability to stream and record in 4K, but this is an optional feature that can be added. This means you can upgrade your Pearl Nano device with 4K capabilities if your needs evolve. However, keep in mind that this feature may require an additional license.

Custom design creator.

"Custom layouts" in the context of the Epiphan Pearl Nano device refers to the ability to create and customize the layout of visual elements in your streams or recordings.

With Pearl Nano's custom design editor, you can create different looks for your channel, such as picture-in-picture or side-by-side video sources. You can add media like transparent images and custom backgrounds to a design, then resize and arrange all the different media elements as you wish.

SRT encoding and decoding.

SRT, which stands for Secure Reliable Transport, is a streaming video transport protocol and technology stack designed to connect two endpoints and deliver video and other media streams with low latency over any network, including the public Internet.

SRT encoding" and "SRT decoding" refer to the processes of preparing and receiving media streams for transmission via this protocol.

Main features

Extensive integration with Kaltura and Panopto.

The "extensive integration with Kaltura and Panopto" means that the Epiphan Pearl Nano can effectively connect and interact with Kaltura and Panopto platforms.

Kaltura and Panopto are Video Content Management Systems (VCMS) platforms that enable organizations to efficiently store, stream, and manage video. These platforms are widely used in educational and corporate settings for distance learning, employee training, web conferencing, and other video applications.

Support for SRT, HLS, MPEG-DASH, RTMP and RTMPS transmission protocols.

SRT (Secure Reliable Transport): An open and secure video transmission protocol that optimizes live video transmission over unpredictable networks such as the Internet.

HLS (HTTP Live Streaming): Developed by Apple, this protocol divides video content into small segments and transmits them over standard HTTP web servers4. It is widely compatible with many devices and browsers.

MPEG-DASH (Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP): Similar to HLS, this protocol also divides video content into segments and allows the transmission of videos with different levels of quality. It is an open standard and can run on any web server5.

RTMP (Real-Time Messaging Protocol) and RTMPS (RTMP Secure): These are real-time transmission protocols used to transmit audio, video, and data over the Internet. RTMPS is the secure version of RTMP that uses an SSL connection for secure data transmission.

Saves recordings directly to an SD card (user-supplied).

This means that you can insert an SD card into the device and all recordings will be automatically saved to that card.

This is useful for storing and transporting recordings, and also provides a form of backup in case the live stream has problems.

Expansion compartment for a user-supplied M.2 SATA SSD.

M.2 SATA SSD is a type of storage that uses the SATA interface. The SSD must be provided by the user, which means it is not included with the purchase of the device and must be purchased separately.

The Pearl Nano can support up to 512GB M.2 SATA SSDs. When you install an M.2 SATA SSD, the Pearl Nano no longer detects the SD card and the SD card option is removed from the settings menu in the admin panel.

The Pearl Nano automatically formats the SSD using the EXT4 format for the Ubuntu operating system the first time you turn on the device.

Automatic transfer of recordings to a USB drive or network server.

USB drive: You can connect a USB drive to the Pearl Nano and set it to automatically transfer recordings to this drive. This can be useful if you want to have a physical copy of your recordings that you can take with you or store elsewhere.

Network server: You can also configure the Pearl Nano to automatically transfer recordings to a network server. This can be useful if you have a network storage system (NAS) or server that you use to store and manage your recordings. File transfer can be done over various network protocols, such as FTP, SFTP, among others.

Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP).

The Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) is a software protocol for locating data about organizations, individuals and other resources such as files and devices on a network.

In Epiphan Pearl Nano, LDAP is used to manage access to the device. It has two main objectives:

Store this data in your directory.
Authorize users to access it.

This means that you can configure the Pearl Nano so that only certain users or groups of users have access to it, based on information stored on an LDAP server. This can be useful in environments where there are many users or where fine-grained access control is required, such as in a company or educational institution.

Integration with Crestron systems.

Crestron is a leading company in automation and control solutions for AV (Audio and Video) systems. Its systems allow you to control, manage, and automate a wide range of technologies and devices in environments such as conference rooms, classrooms, auditoriums, homes, and more.

Integration with Crestron allows the Pearl Nano to be controlled through a Crestron system, which can include the ability to start and stop recordings and live streams, change layouts, manage multiple channels independently, and get live video previews. This can be especially useful in environments where a Crestron system is used to control a variety of AV devices and technologies.

Secure Sockets Layer (SSL).

Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) is a standard security protocol used to establish an encrypted connection between a server and a client. This encrypted connection ensures that all data transmitted between the server and the client is kept private and secure.

SSL uses symmetric and asymmetric cryptography to create a secure connection. This means that data is encrypted before it is sent and then decrypted after it is received, preventing other people from being able to access it during transmission.
